Pharmacy

Blue Cross Animal Hospital has a fully stocked pharmacy of medications for your pet. We also use the services of an outside compounding pharmacy. This allows us to special order drugs in different formulations to meet the needs of an individual animal. For instance if an owner can’t give pills we can often have a drug made up in a flavoured liquid or chew tab.

Medications prescribed by our doctors are governed by the same laws as those prescribed by human doctors. That is why, even with a condition that a pet might have had last year, we require an examination before dispensing.

In the case of repeat prescriptions we ask everyone to call and place the request on our Medication Renewal phone line at (416) 469-1121, and press 5, or to use the Prescription Refill Request Form on this site.

Requesting your refill in advance allows our doctors to review the pet’s file before approving the refill. This is a safety precaution for the pet. Some long term treatments such as insulin or thyroid medications require regular monitoring of the pet’s blood to be sure the body has not started to metabolize the drug differently. If there are changes, a dosage adjustment could be needed.
