Janet, Communications Manager

After growing up in Hamilton, Janet attended Queen’s University in Kingston where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She returned to Toronto and built a career in graphic design and interactive media, working for clients such as Mercedes-Benz, McDonalds, and Labatt’s.

Janet has worked on communications for Blue Cross Animal Hospital for many years. She started with designing the original “pawprint” logo in 1998, when the only stationery the hospital had was a business card. Since then, the logo has had two revisions, while maintaining the original pawprint concept. Janet’s involvement with Blue Cross Animal Hospital has kept pace with our growth and increasing standards of client communications. Five years ago she came on board full-time, bringing with her an expertise in graphic communication, photography, web design, and user interfaces.

“I have an absolute passion for creating a bonded community between our hospital and our clients and their pets. I want our clients to truly understand how valued they are by all of us at Blue Cross, and to feel that we are their “go-to” resource for providing their pet with the best possible health and life. “We treat your pets like family” is our motto, and every single thing I design for Blue Cross Animal Hospital has that premise at its’ root.”

Janet now designs and produces all of the graphic communications provided by the hospital, from stickers to staff nametags, to the fabric banner that hangs above the hospital on Danforth Avenue. You will see her work on our website, exterior and interior signage, social media channels, which include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and Youtube, brochures and handouts for clients, and programming for our waiting room display. Recently, as we move ahead with new client programs, Dani, one of our Client Care Representatives has begun to assist her with some of our communications tasks.

“I have a list as long as my arm of all the wonderful tools and treasures I want to bring to our amazing clients – every year we complete some of them, and every year we add to the list!”

Janet lives with three cats (don’t tell them that she also likes dogs 😉 ). And since you can never have enough pictures in the world, Janet spends much of her time away from Blue Cross Animal Hospital drawing, painting, and taking photographs.
