Lorna, Client Care Representative
Lorna grew up in Ayr, a small town on the west coast of Scotland, where she spent many happy hours walking her dog along the many beautiful beaches in the area.
She has always loved animals, and pets were part of her family throughout her childhood and when her own children were growing up.
Lorna studied journalism at Napier University in Edinburgh, and then spent many years working in media, first as a journalist and then in public relations.
As she visited her local vet clinic with her pets over the years she often thought what a rewarding job it would be, helping not only animals but their owners too, at what can sometimes be a difficult and worrying time. When the opportunity arose to take a different career path, Lorna was lucky enough to secure a client care position with a veterinary hospital in Ayrshire. When life brought her to Canada, we welcomed her addition to the team here at Blue Cross Animal Hospital.
As part of the client care team, Lorna helps to look after Blue Cross Animal Hospital clients and their pets, welcoming them to the clinic, whether they’re arriving for appointments, being admitted for a procedure or testing, or perhaps picking up medication or food. She also regularly works in our call centre, booking appointments, providing information, or calling owners to find out how their pet is doing or to let them know it’s time for their annual health check.
Lorna has a 12-year-old cocker spaniel called Crunchie (because he’s the same colour as the inside of a Crunchie chocolate bar) who still lives in Scotland with family. She misses him very much but video calls with him regularly! In Toronto she get to spend time with a little bulldog named Fiona who comes for sleepovers and trips to the dog park. Ideally Lorna would fill her home with rescue dogs who need a home most.
“My family jokes that I ‘cuddle puppies all day‘ and to be fair that is definitely one of the best things about my job. There is no better way to start the day! But I also love being part of the team that can help a pet owner, who has come in stressed and worried, go home feeling joy and relief.”
When she’s not busy cuddling puppies, Lorna loves a great book, good coffee, going to gigs, yoga and she recently got her skates back on after many, many years!
