The full Blue Cross Animal Hospital Team, wearing masks at a good social distance.
Back in March, we started to understand how dangerous COVID-19 could be.
The wonderful, caring, dedicated members of the Blue Cross Animal Hospital team did not hesitate to put their own health at risk for their patients and clients. Not a single member of the group asked to be put on leave. Everyone hoped and advocated for veterinary medicine to be an essential service so they could continue to care for their patients.
To my amazing team, I say thank you from deep in my soul. I could not ask to work with a more remarkable and brave group of people.
We have been through a lot in the past few months. We split into two teams to allow the hospital, to stay open in the event one unlucky staff member got sick. We decreased our hours when we were on mandatory emergency work only. We added back Saturdays and asked people to work more hours to accommodate more patients as we were allowed to do more routine care. Everyone just stepped up and did as was asked.
We have had fantastic support from the huge majority of our clients through this stressful and trying time. And to you, I also say thank you. Your patience and kindness have made our work worthwhile.
The day-to-day has been challenging and tiring–every task is made much more complicated by the procedures required for safety from the virus. Occasionally, the team has had to bear the brunt of a member of the public’s own stress and been subjected to some extremely harsh words or treatment–that has been very tough given how hard everyone is working. But we have supported each other, kept our heads up, and our hearts open, and done all we can for those in our care.
To the best team in veterinary medicine thank you for being just that.
With deep appreciation,
Dr. Hazel Eaglesome
