We usually think of robins as the first sign of spring, but the new reality in Toronto seems to be that ticks are also one of the first creatures to reappear as the weather warms. As soon as the temperature sneaks above 3 degrees celsius for more than a day or two, ticks start questing for a blood meal. With last week’s warm weather, we have already started to see attached ticks on dogs coming into the hospital. The temperature today has been over 3C, and next week several days are forecast to be as warm.
Please be vigilant. Inspect your dog or cat carefully after they come in from the outdoors. If you do find a tick, refer to our earlier post for removal instructions.
