Dermatology is the treatment of skin ailments and conditions.

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It not only can have its own medical issues, some systemic or internal illnesses can also affect the skin. Some of the most common issues that our veterinarians see with the skin are related to allergies. Parasites such as fleas, ticks and mange are also common reasons for a pet to brought in for an examination. Lump, bumps, itchy, red, scaly, flakey, oozing or hairless areas should be checked by a veterinarian.

Tests that we can use to help to diagnose the problem include skin scrapings for parasites, fungal cultures, bacterial cultures, blood tests and skin biopsies. We can also offer referral to a veterinary dermatologist for allergy testing and further diagnostics if needed.
