Soft Tissue Surgery

Soft tissue surgery includes surgeries not associated with bone. Examples of a few soft tissue surgeries that we perform are listed below.

The veterinarians of our hospital are skilled in surgeries involving the eyes, ears, skin, gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas and bladder.

Many of the surgeries we perform involve removing lumps from the skin. Some of these are benign and some are not. Often we recommend a sample be sent to a pathologist who will tell us what the mass is and whether we need to watch out for it to return.

Cats and dogs are prone to eat things that they shouldn’t. Our veterinarians have saved lives by removing everything from ear plugs, to Kinder Eggs to Barbie from the stomachs and intestines of some of our patients.

Cuts and lacerations often need stitches. We have repaired wounds from 1 cm to 20cm. We even do plastic surgery such as skin grafts if the skin is lost completely from a wound.

Even with all this experience and skill there are some surgeries that are better performed by a Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon so we will make referrals if it is warranted.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery refers to bone surgery. There are many different situations where bone surgery may be necessary including leg fractures, hip dysplasia, disc disease, etc. Because of the complex nature of bone surgery and the specialized equipment needed, Blue Cross Animal Hospital usually refers its orthopedic cases to a Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon.

There are some exceptions. We are equipped to repair Cranial Cruciate Ligament Ruptures, a very common orthopedic injury in dogs. We can also perform Femoral Head Ostectomy surgery.
